Set Up Your Workspace

At first, you need to set a plastic bag or a towel at the place you have decided to bleach the wig. Flatten the towel or the plastic with the help of your hands. This will act as a backdrop when you will be bleaching the knots. The towel or the plastic will also protect the surface in case you spill something. The material should be long and wide enough to cover the whole wig.

Place your wig on the material and stretch it out. Make sure that the base is facing upwards while the hair is facing downwards. Try to keep the base and knots in the middle.

Wear gloves while bleaching the wig. Bleach can harm your skin and also irritate it. So you will not like if it spills during the whole process. Take safety measures seriously.

Take a bowl and pour 2 – 3 spoons of bleaching powder inside it. If you are want to cover a large area, use more than 3 spoons. Make sure that the bleach you are using is labeled as lightening material. This type of bleach is available in most beauty stores.

Take a developer and pour 1 – 2 capful of it. If you want the bleaching process to be quick, then you can go for a high volume developer. Creme developers are easily found in beauty stores.

Mix the developer and the bleach well. Use a spoon or an applicator to do so. Stir the mixture until it is very smooth and lump-free. The smoother it will get, the better will be the results. If you see the mixture is getting thick, then feel free to add extra developers.

Applying the bleach mixture

Use a brush to apply the bleach mixture on your hair. Dip the brush in the mixture and apply it to the knots of the wig carefully. If you want it to be a little lighter, then use a thin layer. If you want the base to be completely bleached, then use a thick coat of the bleach. Use the right to left motions for applying. Be gentle on the base, or else the hair might fall out later.

Seal the bleached base of the wig with aluminum foil. Take a large piece of aluminum foil and cover the base from the top, so that it can set well. Fold the sheet in half for better hold.

You have to keep the bleach for 10 – 20 minutes. Check the base and knots every 2 – 5 minutes to see if they have lightened enough. If you are using a developer with more concentration, then the bleach will set within 5 – 10 minutes.

Rinsing the bleach out

Use cold water to wash off the bleach. Wash the base of the wig carefully. To avoid spreading of the bleach to the rest of the wig, hold the wig vertically. Gently rub the bleach off the wig. Make sure you are wearing gloves during the process.

After rinsing the bleach with cold water, you need to apply shampoo on it. Shampoo washes out the excessive bleach on the hair. Use a neutralizing shampoo just made for bleached hair. You will find this kind of shampoos in beauty stores. Rub the base of the closure gently with the shampoo. Let it sit for 5 minutes.

Rinse the shampoo after a few minutes. Apply a good amount of conditioner on the hair and the base. The conditioner keeps the moisture of the hair and also smoothes it. Keep the conditioner for a few minutes before washing it off.

Pour cool water and wash the conditioner gently. Keep the wig in a well air-ventilated place to dry it off. You will see the results immediately.

Be ready to experience naturalness and feel like a queen. Bleaching lace closure or lightening it removes the visibility of the ties made in the base. The knots act as the root of your hair. It makes you feel like you are not wearing a wig anymore! If you follow the steps we have mentioned in this article, you will get a perfect bleach knot on lace closure. The longevity of the knots also depends on maintenance. So, with proper care, you can get the perfect wig you were hoping for!
